  • I hear ya. There's a quote I heard once that I like quite a bit - I am paraphrasing: "Religion should be like underwear - worn on the inside." People can believe anything they want, so long as it doesn't hurt or defame others. But when they feel the need to proselytize their beliefs to others, it crosses a line into telling others what they "should" believe, and is wrong.
  • The Bible teaches about God, and while your question is quite general, in that it could be applied to nearly all, if not all, religions, I must assume you are, at least, hinting at Christianity, given your experience with Christianists and Christians alike. As said before, the Bible teaches of God, who He is, and much is to be gleaned in how He thinks, what He wants, what He has planned in this life and the next. Christians are humble and those who claim to be Christians and time and again, use their theological know how to bash and insult others are actually Christianists. Religion jades, AntigoneRising. Seek peace and purity and the Author of life.
  • I usually don't respond to topics about religion, but I think AR's question is very relevant in today's culture in which religion and all of its side effects (creationism, intelligent design, anti-science movements) is anything but humble. More and more, people who have a 'belief' have forgotten the meaning of the word: it is a person's opinion or viewpoint: it implies humility, not certainty, and definitely not the kind of statements found here in one of the answers to AR's question: "To claim that there is no God is the real folly, a fool's errand, no less." That kind of talk is just plain offensive!
  • The whole purpose of "Religion" is to come to "know" God and follow His will for our lives - No? Further, the Scripture “encourages” a relationship with God – would this not infer to the importance to know” Him in order to do His will? – No?
  • I guess the "humility" lies in the fact that the believers don't just come up to you and kill you for not believing. (most times anyway)
  • From a Christian perspective, I believe by faith the Yahweh exists but because I believe by faith and not physical evidence, I cannot prove nor is it my job to prove to you that God exists. The only things I claim to know that God is thinking is what's presented in Scripture. Beyond that I have no clue. I don't take it upon myself to try to "make" you or "persuade" you to believe anything. Some may do that but it's not commanded in Scripture to do so. I am commissioned by Christ to spread the Gospel but it is ultimately up to the person hearing the Gospel to either accept or reject it. If you reject it, so be it. I did what I was commissioned to do. Then I just move on and leave you with your decision.
