First figure out what it is your trying to achieve, 'coloring and highlighting' are two different things. There are alternatives for not wanting to use products with 'to many chemicals' but if your trying to 'lighten' your hair this will need something a little stronger. Ethnic hair is the most challenging of all to master for hairdressers because of it's delicate state and constant brittlness it needs a special touch. Because of your age my suggestion would be to get in touch with a local hair salon that specializes in ethnic hair and get a cosultation to help you clarify your thoughts on this, it should be free unless you happen to come across someone that does celebrity hair.

well you know perm(relaxers) have more chemicals then perm. color, NO LYE or not! so.. go ahead! use a 10-20 volume lift(peroxide so they say) tehn use BW(bleach) for high lights!

Serously? Save your pennies (it will be worth it) and find the very best stylist you can (do some research it is your hair and it something you will have to live with) and go there. I am a hair stylist and I would never consider doing what you are hoping to do by guesswork or by myself. You may need a ton of good conditioner while they are doing the magic and will be on hand if things start going south. Good luck
