"The Gammage Cup" by Carol Kendall. It would be completely bastardized, but it would still make a pretty good movie. The "Shadow Children" series by Margaret Peterson Haddix would also make a good series of movies. I read them as an adult, but they are aimed at young teens.

It's so easy for a book to lose its magic when they try to put it on film. I'd just as soon keep my favorite books as books--my imagination is usually better than the casting directors.

I have a favorite children's book of all time..it's called "Make Way for Ducklings". My son loved it. It takes place in Boston (where my son was born), the main setting is the Public Garden. The author is Robert McCloskey..it won the Caldecott Medal for excellence. The Momma Duck and her ducklings have been immortalized in the form of a bronze grouping of statues right in the Public Garden. Children can sit on them. It is the most charming children's book I've ever read. My son and I each have a copy of it (he is 42..I am almost 71). We love it! :)

'The Jolly Postman' or 'The Jolly Christmas Postman'!

Most of the books I loved as a kid are movies. I liked Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and James and the Giant peach and they were both into movies. Which were fun to watch. But my other favorite was Secret Garden. And I never went to see that. I like the memory I have of what I remember from my imagination that I don't really wanna change it.
