My 2000 toyota corolla check engine light is on. A dianogstic stated my engine is running too lean with no vacum leaks. The mechanic said I needed to replace both front & rear Oxygen sensors. I did & my engine light came back on. What else could be wrong?

    While I can see the logic in the mechanic thinking that it could be the O2 sensors reading wrong, the truth is that it's unlikely to be both of them. I'd say he's a putz who went with his gut but didn't use his brain to verify the diagnosis.

    Running too lean implies a lack of fuel. That could be a bad injector, clogged fuel line, or other issue in the fuel delivery system. Personally, I'd go to Autozone and have them hook up an OBDII scanner. It's free and they'll explain what the error code means.

    As long as the engine light is on, your car's on board computer should show an error code that will tell you the problem. At this point, I can only guess that maybe what is wrong is your mechanic.

    first you have to make it sure the wiring is okey;check the wire thoughrly.from sensor to the engine ECU.sometimes its on the wire.or it might be the ECU itself..or loose connection...do one thing.remove the fuse EFI,re-set.or erase the code;for a while;records the trouble;or codes;start the engine;observe again;the first time you start,check if the check engine lights vesible again;after the first start;if not; stop the engine.start twice or thirse;then observe if the check engine lights again;do the two trip detection logic;if the lights come again;short;the TE1-E1 in the diagnoctic box inside the engine compartment;then;check the codes;

    A faulty coolent temp sensor can also cause your problems.

    i had the same problem as you. lean fule mixture in bank one. the o2 sensors were replaced recently. anyway it ended up being that the air filter box was not seeling correctly between the top and bottom half. so i had to use silly putty and duct tape to seal up the leaks in the box. im sure there is a better way to do it but i needed an inspection. and after all that it passed inspection and the engine light hasnt come back on.

    I am having the same problem and replaced both sensors and ohmed out the injectors. The car dies when its really cold and you step on the gas too much. This year corolla did not have a fuel filter in the line only on the tank. Im starting to think maybee the MAP sensor.
