It's not so much that they are questioning things as it is that they're finding connections between them that don't exist.

Part of the problem is that the events of 9/11 have been fertile ground for all sorts of truly wild speculative scenarios. I saw one 9/11 "truth" web site that seriously asserted that the WTC towers were disintegrated from above by a space-borne energy weapon. As with many other similar groups/movements, the truly 'lunatic fringe' tends to get the publicity, and that paints an inaccurate picture of the beliefs/questions of more sober people.

They are called theory nuts because often times they make up their own possible scenarios (or theories) as to what could have led to certain events. Those theories often get carried away and hence the name theory nuts

If you consider that 85% of the American population believes in a god and blindly do and think what their priest/minister/preacher tells them, you then understand why that thought is so scary and threatening to them. Some people are just born to follow
