  • I always look to make sure that water won't be able to find it's way into the passenger compartment. I also like a car that gives a smooth ride and I check the tires and the oil and fluid levels and see if there are any leaks.
  • Make sure the driver didn't push the car too hard- if you're buying something sporty, and the driver is under 30 just walk away. Next make sure there is no sign of repairwork, get a carfax report on it if you're really interested. Check the average cost of ownership on sites like driverside.com to see if it's wroth buying, and if the owner followed a service schedule you will see what has to be done- if they didnt, check driverside for a schedule to see what type of work should be done in the future. I would also check for something that has good brakes and looks like it was maintained. Check the trim as well, and turn the ac/heat on to see if you smell anything weird. The most important thing is to research, inspect, get a mechanic's advice, and to bargain!
