I believe that just about anything can give you a virus, but I have not had any problems.

I find it difficult to believe that you would get a virus from Answerbag, but you could easily get one if you followed a link posted by a malicious user.

Any website has the possibility of giving you a virus. Here is how: 1. AB staff decide to add one to their programming 2. Someone hacks the site and adds one to the code. How to prevent this... 1. Have a firewall (Windows firewall is surprisingly good at stopping malicious attacks via web browsers) 2. Have an anti-virus program running (AVG and F-Secure are good free alternatives to the expensive Nortan and MacAfee) 3. Do not use Internet Explorer (most people do use IE so most viruses attack that browser. Firefox and Chrome are much safer and faster alternatives) There are more advanced options but these are the three easiest ones.

Not directly: you are not supposed to get a virus through the interface. However, if you use Answerbag, you could get a virus: - if you follow a link given in an answer - if you look for information to answer a question and find some information on a virus infected site The internet contains a lot of viruses, so be cautious and use a good antivirus software.

I've never got a virus from Answerbag. Well, except for the one that draws you to your keyboard and the Answerbag site daily. ;-)

Technically speaking it is possible. You are mostly likely to have the problem if you use Microsoft Windows. If you use Mac OS X or Linux then there is much less chance. Taking a real life example, a flaw in Windows image rendering meant that a popular news site served up viruses to its visitors, with infection simply by visiting the page. Despite the site's security, the advertising company it used provided infected banner ads at the top of the page. There are many other ways your system could be infected, but with proper care the chances can be minimised. For example, using Mozilla Firefox with NoScript and AdBlock.
