  • I recently bought a 2000 Ford Explorer with the check engine light on. I took it to the dealer for a diagnostic check and the techs found a leak in the air intake manifold. We replaced the gasket and no more check engine light!
  • The "both banks lean" code means that you are either getting... A) Too much air into the engine, or B) Not enough fuel Category A problems are much more common. It could be as simple as a loose vacuum hose, or as complicated/expensive as a failed air mass meter. Category B problems are less common. If your fuel pressure is low, as you indicated, that could explain why the engine is not getting enough fuel and why the engine control computer is unable to compensate for the problem. Have your mechanic determine the reason for the low fuel pressure before looking for other problems. Good luck.
