  • Each state is different. First you must complete your state's required education. In 2005, in Georgia, that was an Associate's degree in Funeral Service. Then you must pass your National Board exams and serve your apprenticeship which varies in each state. {Georgia was 18 months and a quota that must be filled on funerals and embalmings in that time frame.} After which you may take your state board examination and become licensed. The average funeral director makes between 35 thousand and 65 thousand annually, unless they own their own funeral home in which case the income may increase. They are seldom held as separate degrees.
