its barometric pressure or isobars they refer to. On a weather map, the higher the number eg; 1020, the more the weather pattern refers to a 'high', which is usually good weather, or mild weather, often warm and not so windy.

the lower the number, eg: '990', the worse the weather coming, often associated with a cold front, ( you often see more lows in winter than in summer) or a very active front approaching, often with a low of wind, ( especially if the isobars are close together)
big wind storms such as hurricanes or cyclones, will have a very big low pressure system that defines them :)

- yes, most definately, any of those pressures alter the atmosphere , the feeling of it. IN NZ in the south island we get a wind called the nor wester, its a low pressure that sweeps in form the mountians, when it hits, it give a lot of people terrible headaches, because th drop is so quick and acute, I used to suffer from the headaches, it was horrible :(

- no, because we moved from one end of the country to the other, those winds dont effect Auckland, thank goodness ! :)

It's the atmospheric pressure. It is essentially how much the air weighs in that particular location.

THere is a column of air pressing against your head right now. It does not vary by very much. It only takes a small change in pressure for the surrounding air to want to be sucked in and cause storms.

High pressure usually means pleasant, sunny weather. The high pressure keeps other air away.
Low pressure means that other air, say a few hundred miles away is higher, and will eventually be drawn in. Usually this causes storms.
Hurricanes have very LOW pressure. WHen there is higher pressure being pussed into lower pressure, this is called wind.

- No. Humidity is a measure of how much water vapor (moisture) is present in the air.
  
  Pressure is a measure of how heavy or dense the air is.
  
  The pressure in a ballon or a tire is higher than the pressure of the surrounding air. It has nothing to do with how much water vapor is in it.
  
  The pressure in a straw is lower than the air surrounding it. That's why water or soda is drawn through it.
  
  Humid air can be high or low pressure. It's not really related.
