Depends on the teenager. A lot of shy people really come to life on stage. Sometimes being scripted is all it takes to break the fright. (I personally have horrible social anxiety, but feel totally at home performing on stage)

You should ask them to prepare a monologue for audition, and do a cold-reading dualogue as well. Give 'em a shot.

probably someone who doesn't have many lines?
not to be rude, but you have to project to be on stage, and if you have a soft voice and are shy, its gonna be REAL hard to get the people in the back of the audience to hear you. and i'm short. its hard to get roles when you're short. average height and tall usually get them. most likely, you'll be best as betty in the crucible. shes a kid and she doesnt have a ton of lines. if you can learn to be louder, you could totally do that.

Ah, Wilderness. Why do you ask? Audition monologue? Usually you don't get to pick the plays that your school or local theater is doing, so you want to have a range. and a character might be soft-spoken but if the actor can't be heard, that's a problem.

An extra without speaking lines, like a servant or side kick, depending on the play being done.
