Yes, they do. For a while, anyway. When a file is deleted from your hard drive, whether you do it manually or whether IE deletes it for you, the raw data still stays on the disk. All that is deleted is the "reference" to the file. With specialist tools a person could quite easily recover the file. However, over time the file will be written-over with new data and as time goes on most if not all of the file will become unrecoverable. There are tools you can use to completely erase the data on your hard drive. A good utility for this purpose is Jetico's BC Wipe which used to be freeware but, alas, is not any more. There is a fully-fuctional 30-day trial, though, and registration is only $40. It gives you some very good tools to deal with file deletion on a file-by-file basis, as well as a disk-by-disk basis.
