On what premise do you say that entertainment destroys our cultures? The Arts (which includes and involves entertainment at some level)have been around since time immemorial.

Ender is back.. And slightly confused.

Entertainment is our culture. Have you been sleeping for the past 20 years? With the introduction of television and cinema, the culture had a huge shift in terms of values and what kinds of things we do to escape from reality and keep ourselves preoccupied.

Unless you're talking about "native" cultures? Well, even in that sense, native cultures also had forms of entertainment. They would perform dances and rituals, or draw or paint or tell stories. The truth is, human beings have always looked for something to entertain themselves.

In my opinion we embrace entertainment as temporary escape from from the unpleasent realities that our culture has conveyed upon us. Entertainment by no means destroys any culture in fact entertainment is an interrelated part of most cultures that allows individuals some introspective.Entainment also allows people to put the adversity that most of us face at one time or another in our lives in perspective.:).

Go know thyself is THE RED QUEEN

Because Americans prefer pretty dellusion to hard cold truth...

We are cushy and spoiled and need to stop and consider the differences between art and garbage created for the sake of lulling our senses to sleep.

Most performances these days are media driven and for no other reason than careful, seamless product placement for profit and coorporate gain.

    Blackberry.

Even though some entertainment may destroy cultures or make them look bad, no one cares if its a different culture other than thier own, thats where all the racist jokes, stereotypes and such come from in my opinion. Well, Not from media and entertainment, but it sure does glorify it. I wouldn't say it destroys the culture either, maybe just um.... puts it in the spotlight for people to make out what they want of it lol. i guess.

It is in our nature to self - destruct if not over - burdened with work. Yeah it sucks, I know, but there you go. The trick is to be in a position to choose your "work".

The reason we embrace entertainment, and going back in history people always have, is because it gives us a break from our own lives. That it destroys our cultures is your opinion and I am not privy to why you hold the opinions you do.
