  • Last I looked, Not Any More. I'm answering this in the context of Surgical Fashion. Back in the 1950's, almost ALL kids got their tonsils and adenoids out, whether needed or not. Nowadays, that surgery is less done, as the protective functions or the Tonsils are better understood. Still, the only judge I'd respect is an MD (plus a Second Opinion).

  • When I was a child I was sick all the time w/strep throat,ear infections,etc...I had my tonsils out at 7 yrs.I rarely got sick after that.So it was great for me.
  • My son has sleep apnea which is aggravated by enlarged tonsils. He also had frequent ear infections and strep throat. Had the tonsils removed at age 8 and the sleep apnea has much improved and he is very rarely ill. But I agree that most doctors no longer recommend their removal. Your M.D. would know based on your, or your childs', medical history.
