Jay-walking is not nearly as serious an offence in UK as it appears to be in US. If I see that it is safe for me to cross the road then I have no qualms about so doing. I think it says that I am decisive and forward-thinking.

i think it funny you see all these silly people running through dangerous traffic and the lights are a few metres away. go figure!

I almost die every single day crossing the street. I'm more of a 'yay lets dodge the cars kind of person'. Why wait unnecessarily? :P

I tend to wait ... but then again I'm gettin' kinda old and don't like the idea of broken hips and such. But I still waited as a young'n as well ... if you display civility (probably the wrong word) in small matters then folks will kind of tend to take it for granted that you do the same for larger and more important matters. More simply, if you obey the little laws then you will more likely obey them all.

If it is practical to do so then why not? I do. This probably says that I'm very impatient though. If I had to wait for the green man everytime I crossed the road I'd probably have to buy a chair to sit on as well. By the way, has anyone noticed that in parts of Europe, such as Spain, POrtugal, the Red Man is incredibly butch and looks like a bouncer you just would never mess with, whereas the green man is camper than a caravan?

I wait for the sign. At least then you have a CHANCE of someone waiting and watching for you. Plus, I feel it is important to teach my children to follow the law, even when its inconvenient. (unless of course a law went again our beliefs) Even waiting for it though I have to be ready to grab the kids and dodge the stupid impatient drivers that think right turn permitted after stopping means stopping WAY over the crosswalk lines.
