Help answer this question below.
Your vet can prescribe anti-depressant .. I can't remember the one they use but I know people who have this problem with their dog and the dog is fine on one of the same anti-depressants humans take that helps anxiety disorders in dogs. I'm thinking prozac, paxil but check with the vet. Common anti-depressant.
Good Luck !!
Matt
Do you know what triggered these problems? Did something happend that your dog found traumatic?
I would advise leaving him for very short periods of time at first, and giving him lots of praise when you return, PROVIDED he isnt displaying any anxiety symptoms when you return. If he is, then ignore him.
Try to make your leaving him as a good expreience, put the TV or radio on (homes are rarely quiet when you're there), leave an old tshirt that you've slept in, in his bed (so he can still smell you) and give him his favourite treat AS YOUR LEAVING. This is really important, dont give it to him as you're about to leave, it must be at the moment you walk through the door.
If his anxiety is manifesting in chewing, make sure you dont leave him anywhere where there is anything he can chew (ie puppy proof the room) and lave him with stuff he's allowed to chew eg toys, carboard boxes, stuffed kongs.
Hope this helps
