I buy on eBay, and my wife has a business selling on eBay. Here are a sampling of things I have purchased over the years:
Water pump for my fish pond
Pair of andirons for my fireplace
Seiko 5 automatic wristwatch (3 purchased in the past 8 years)
Assorted Thomas the Tank Engine track and characters
Replacement pump for a Devilbiss pressure washer
1992 Corvette coupe
To protect myself, I always use PayPal. That way if I have a dispute, I can use PayPal's dispute resolution service.
The closest I ever came to being burned was when I bought the Corvette. It was presented as being in "good condition" and having 100,000 miles on it. When it arrived at my driveway (shipped from Tennessee) it turned out that the seller had a different interpretation of good condition than I did. The exterior was beautiful, but the interior was trashed. In addition, the car had 142,000 miles instead of the 100,000 advertised. I contacted my attorney who fired off a letter to the seller. After threatening to sue (in Massachusetts courts!) we received a full refund including the cost of transportation. For future, I will limit my automobile purchases on eBay to ones where I can go look at the car prior to bidding!
Yes - I've never had a bad experience with eBay, and have found most people a delight to deal with.
Yes, and I have been very successful there.
If you are patient, and are not afraid to loose an auction or two, you can pick up some nice bargains.
Yes, its a great place to get good deals on even new items.
Yes, occasionally. Mostly books where the shipping costs are higher than the price of the book :)
if browsing ebay is the same thing as window shopping than i guess i do. but im more of a craigslist kinda girl. bought my macbook pro just monday night thru there.
Yep, I do.
Every once in a while. I'm a huge fan of books, so I use Amazon.com more.
Only on occasion.
I have, but not very often. I bought a cell phone for my daughter once and saved a lot.
Very often, mostly buy books.
Yes, I have bought and sold on ebay, all with positive feedback. I agree that using PayPal helps protect both the buyer and seller, since it's true that you don't know how the transaction might turn out. However, I do find that most people are reasonable if I am nice and reasonable with them (which of course I am). I have found some good bargains and I like the convenience of having the items delivered to my door. I have a busy schedule and so it's hard to go out and shop for presents, for example, and plus I'm not too fond of shopping in stores in the first place.
I can understand and respect why someone might not like ebay, though. I'm glad that my experiences have been positive. I think it might just take one bad experience to make anyone want to leave the site, even though it's not the site's fault.
My husband does regularly. I do rarely. It took five months to duke it out with PayPal over a fraudlent boxed set of Sex and the City DVDs. The guy was thrown off Ebay, he was from CHINA. My husband had been buying me some beautiful glass replicas and I have been enjoying them very much.
I have bought and sold on Ebay. I love the forum.I sold a stones -tee shirt - I picked up at a thrift store-cost me- three dollars. I turned around and sold it on Ebay for sixty five dollars.Cha - Ching!--The buyer was happy and so was I.
I dont but my parents and borther do...
yes, and sell. i buy 2nd hand kids clothing like fred bear for under $10. when they cost $60+ brand new. i have over 500 ratings, it is great for some things.
I have bought 26 items on e-bay, and all but one purchase was satisfactory ( a DVD advertised as new that wasn't, and I got all of my money back through paypal). I bought a valet stand, a panda-shaped teapot for my sister, some really nice wineglasses, 2 lamps, a wooden puzzle of the US, some delft tiles, a Jets Tshirt, a movie poster, a digital camera for about 60% of market value. I enjoy the tension of the auctions. I think it's a great way to buy as long as you pay through paypal and make sure the seller is experienced and has 99-100% positive feedback.
No I still buy peoples junk the old fashion way... i go to garage/yard sales lol
I mainly just "window shop" on ebay, but the few times I have bought something I've examined the seller's feedback prior to purchasing, especially any neutral or negative ratings. I read those comments from the buyer.
Yes! I love shopping on eBay. Once you know what you're doing, which includes knowing how to spot "fake" things like designer clothing, it's actually quite a great place to find deals. The motto has to be "caveat emptor" or let the buyer beware. But forearmed with a little knowledge and patience, there are many wonderful things to be found there. I also sell on eBay. I've been buying and selling on eBay since June 2001 and out of hundreds of transactions have only twice had a negative experience.
I love eBay and do a lot of shopping on there. I do live by the rule that "if something seems to good to be true, it normally is", so I don't buy the stuff that is obviously fake etc. but I have had a lot of good bargains and had some really great stuff.
No. I don't trust shopping online. Actually I don't really trust shopping anywhere anymore. But online scares me more than the others.
No, I havn't yet but there is a 'Save Ferris' T-shirt that I've seen that I'm hoping to buy.
YES and NO and I 'll explain why...
To buy the second hand ( almost new ) expensive dictionary and pay just 20% from market price ? Sure! Why not?
To buy the "real french" Lacoste shirt from Honk-Kong -NO thanks
No, not anymore...i have recieved to many FAKE items...i dont trust them anymore.
No. Sorry about that
I do if I am looking for an item that is no longer sold in stores. I sell way more than I buy.
yes I do, every other month or so. I get things for myself that are hard to find. Or I shop there for some unique Christmas and birthday presents like I did this week....
I've yet to have a bad experience with ebay.
Yes, I do, but I've sold more than I've bought.
All of the time. It lets me laugh at my friends and coworkers that over pay for stuff. For example, a friend of mine went to a big box store and bought a $60 video game. I got mine off eBay for $12.50 + $3.00 shipping...total price $15.50, brand new. I've saved hundreds using eBay.
Too Addictive
i see great deals but i don't trust whoever im buying the stuff from.
Almost everything I buy (besides food and gasoline) I get from E-Bay. It is very convenient and you will find almost everything there. Just enter the name of a book or a movie that you may want to see and yo will find someone somewhere in a tiny town you never heard of before that is selling a copy at a very low price.
yeah but only when im looking for somethin that i cannot find in the shops!
I have bought 3-4 dozen items on Ebay (mostly a hard to find present, but sometimes something for myself). I've never had a bad experience with Ebay.
