  • Hmm, Cheese pie would be quiche. I assume it has to do with the traditional pie crust / pie tin as opposed to the spring form pan a cheese cake is made in. There is pumpkin cheesecake though. One could also use a traditional pie crust recipe for a cheesecake.
  • I'm thinking that pies are often fruit based, and pumpkin is a fruit, hence pumpkin pie. Cheese, however, is not a fruit. This is the only reason I can think of because you are right, the textures are quite similar.
