all the way there...and back.

Depends on your definition of "back roads." I don't know how far I could get on gravel, but I know I drive about two hours between my house and my mom's house on what I'd call "back roads," roads like "scenic byways" that are two lanes wide for about 95 percent of the trip, with far fewer other cars than taking the main road.

Less than six blocks in any given direction! Having said that, however, I live on a high creek bluff overlooking a wildlife sanctuary. I have sighted as many a 13 deer in one group along the creek ... from my suburban home, one half mile from 694. That's one of the reasons I live where I do. Suburbia out the front door ... "north woods" out the back. ;-)

I have travelled from Quebec City, Canada to my house using only back roads. That's 300+ miles! I am sure I can travel for a loooong while here in the state of Maine and in New England without ever using a highway.
