Help answer this question below.
The "Answer" is simply "42". In the story, the Answer to the Ultimate Question about Life, the Universe, and Everything is produced using the hypercomputer Deep Thought. It generated the Answer after a very long computation time (7.5 million years); however the computer's abilities proved insufficient when asked to provide the Ultimate Question to match the answer of 42. Thereafter, the answer given by Deep Thought prompts the protagonists to embark on a quest to discover the Question to which this is the Answer.

(Hitchhiker's Guide to the Universe)
Love.
Ask yourself...
Am I doing this outta love? (for one another)
It will never let you down.
also:
THE PURPOSE OF LIFE is bringing purpose to the lives of others.
What is purpose...well, TO LOVE. =)
and what is love?...
God is Love
42, of course. Doesn't everyone know that now?
Besides 42, the meaning is written in your handbook. You do have your handbook, don't you? They only issue 1 per person.
Yup, that makes Perfect sense "42" if you are not familiar with that answer you should go and watch "The Hitchhiker Guide to the Universe". I prefer the original movie, not the remake in 2006.
Look in a mirror then look closy at your eye - can you see it - do you now what what the meaning of everything is - Life! - thats what it is! - no-one knows - never will - who would want to? - it might be that disturbing your head could blow up! - someone heard the voice of god and there head blew up - well actually they got shot in the head but at the time i assumed it!
Don't take it seriously - you'll never get out of it alive.
Balance and understanding.
wasn't it 42?

I am so glad you asked.
Jesus Christ is the Answer.
Now go and tell the world
that the Kingdom of God is at hand
The answer lies within, not without.
God
Actually it was meant to be 42 but then because the Vogons blew up the earth (computer designed by Deep Thought), it changed stuff and the actual answer is now 63. Which doesn't make any sense and is why we are perpetually confused and wandering lost. Or sonething.

Something we aren't meant to know.

JESUS CHRIST what a question (did I say Jesus Christ?), oh, I meant Jesus Christ. God Almighty. This was about the easiest question to answer since I joined AB
depends of the source
The answer to life the universe and everything is God. Why the hell would it be a damn number??? Science has no power over God.
If you really believe that it's 42, then at least use math since science is not God. there are 39 letters in "The answer to life the universe and everything". then add the three things you're talking about...life, universe, everything. And there's your damn 42!!!
Actually the answer is not "fourtea two", but "twofor tea" which could explain why everyone drinks so damn much of the stuff!
42
fourty 2
isn't it 45, isnt that the answer via hitchhikers guide to the galaxy LOL
You'll find it under your couch cushions.
There are many more answers than just one and you'll find more of them in this thread. ;)

love.
it doesn't have to be love for a person, but for something. For an idea, for a society. For something.
but i think the answer is love.
The answer to life is to exist as long as possible within a given enviroment. The universe is full of life, even in a vacuum and in the furnace of the most hostile realms imaginable.
There is no real purpose other than to procreate with ones own species to continue on the evolutionary agenda the source energy of the universe has blue printed for it. This is evident in the natural world, where the strong survive and the others become food or die out all together. Humans on the other hand are unique, we are on the cusp of a new era of conciousness, for thousands of years man has had to submit to it's primitive brain, everyone has heard of the "flight or fight" psychology. For the first time since our dawn, we are now just beginning to come into true experimental conciousness and rise above our iniquity's and faults.
We are on the verge of coming out of that delusion as we have now dawned at the top of the food chain. We have no more need to defend ourselves from animals or cannibalistic tribes, the wars we fight now do not reflect our pride, these so called great causes only reflect our ignorance and arrogance. We have all risen above the slave mentality and have now become like gods of our own domain, as we have been ordained by the universe to become. Our technology, and wisdom proceed us... and yet... there is this looming shadow called war.
And what is war? I found the following word history on dictionary.com and it's dipiction of war could not be more accurately discriptive.
The chaos of war is reflected in the semantic history of the word war. War can be traced back to the Indo-European root *wers-, "to confuse, mix up." In the Germanic family of the Indo-European languages, this root gave rise to several words having to do with confusion or mixture of various kinds. One was the noun *werza-, "confusion," which in a later form *werra- was borrowed into Old French, probably from Frankish, a largely unrecorded Germanic language that contributed about 200 words to the vocabulary of Old French. From the Germanic stem came both the form werre in Old North French, the form borrowed into English in the 12th century, and guerre (the source of guerrilla) in the rest of the Old French-speaking area. Both forms meant "war." Meanwhile another form derived from the same Indo-European root had developed into a word denoting a more benign kind of mixture, Old High German wurst, meaning "sausage." Modern German Wurst was borrowed into English in the 19th century, first by itself (recorded in 1855) and then as part of the word liverwurst (1869), the liver being a translation of German Leber in Leberwurst. -The American Heritage® Dictionary of the English Language, Fourth Edition as seen on dictionary.com.

(So basically it means creating confusion among men while churning them into a sausage like mixture, maybe Roger Waters was onto something there.)
What pride is there when we send our soldiers over seas to kill a pregnant woman, or a bus load of school children, or deploy depleted uranium on the innocent populations, you should be so proud your children are made to kill other children. If you have doubts of the fact, then perhaps you are not as informed as you should be, and whose fault is that? The answer to everything lies beyond us until the warmachines of the world are outlawed and dismantled.
- Yea I know it's dark but it's the truth... you can tell because it hurts the most.
- Funny how sensible words fall on deaf ears.

No questions- just observe
Belief.
There is no one answer to anything.
I suspect it's more fun searching than knowing. I always feel good trying to solve a puzzle, and great once I do, but it doesn't last - it gives way to - "so ... now what?"
the answer is 42 but nobody noes the Question to get 42 it toke 14 generations to get to one point and the 14 generations to get to anther point and then anther 14 generations to equal 42.
Jesus replied: "'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.' This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments." Matthew 22:27
this, I believe is the meaning of life, the universe and everything.
There is no answer. You are part of the universe, you can never get an objective look at it because your are it.
The comma.
Try it out sometime.

For me the meaning of life the universe and everything can be summed up by Jesus' words in Matthew 22: 37-39
Jesus replied: " 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.' 38This is the first and greatest commandment. 39And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.
the answer is live every day like it is your last.

You're reading What is the answer to life, the universe, and everything?
- which can also be phrased in the following ways:
Comments
I have not seen this in decades and I have to reread the books desperately so I might be wrong in the following. Regardless, this is what I remember:
The answer can be found on the surface of the planet called Deep Thought (was not the planet actually the computer?)... basically, Earth. Unfortunately, the residents on the surface were cave men and could only communicate in grunts. The meaning of life was coded in their DNA.
Unfortunately, the crew of the spaceship was a bunch of bungling idiots, shipped off with the sole intent of getting rid of the phone sanitizers, pencil pushers, and hair stylists. The captain, for instance, refused to get out of his bathtub.
Only Arthur Dent and Ford Prefect could figure out how to get the answer to this question out of the caveman level dwellers...
