  • electronic device which processes information ..... but most people don't intend the word in its broadest since. They mean a laptop / desktop.
  • In the broadest sense, thing that computes.
  • Other than a metal or plastic case surround a bunch of parts that when put together in the right combination can talk to each other.... - A computer is a device that accepts information (in the form of digitalized data) and manipulates it for some result based on a program or sequence of instructions on how the data is to be processed. Complex computers also include the means for storing data (including the program, which is also a form of data) for some necessary duration. A program may be invariable and built into the computer (and called logic circuitry as it is on microprocessors) or different programs may be provided to the computer (loaded into its storage and then started by an administrator or user). Today's computers have both kinds of programming http://searchwinit.techtarget.com/sDefinition/0,,sid1_g ci211829,00.html
  • A machine capable of logical, rapid, and complex mathematical calculations. A computer can exist in the form of mechanical gears (think Antikythera mechanism, difference engine, Curta, etc) , analogue electrical circuits, binary, sticks, beads, photons, electrons, and many other methods of calculation not yet conceived.
  • this isnt a question!!!
  • glorified adding machine
  • A programmable machine. The two principal characteristics of a computer are: * It responds to a specific set of instructions in a well-defined manner. * It can execute a prerecorded list of instructions (a program). The actual machinery -- wires, transistors, and circuits -- is called hardware; the instructions and data are called software. # memory : Enables a computer to store, at least temporarily, data and programs. # mass storage device : Allows a computer to permanently retain large amounts of data.include disk drives and tape drives. # input device : a keyboard and mouse, through which data and instructions enter a computer. # output device : A display screen, printer, or other device that lets you see what the computer has accomplished. # central processing unit (CPU): The heart of the computer, this is the component that actually executes instructions.
  • A computer is electronic data which text data process the data and produce result
  • Define computer..............................PLEASE! :o(
  • *is a system with one or more computers with associate programs and common storage * is a machine that manipulates data according to a list of instruction
  • something that uses bunch of freakin one's and zero's and does stuff with those 2 weee little numbers that does not make sense sometimes lol
  • Hmmm.... From the answers given here and general perception in the public computer has come to mean an electronic machine that performs computations. This is not strictly correct. A computer is anything that computes i.e. does some sort of calculation. It is not restricted to electronic, mechanical or any other type of machine. Indeed 'computer' was traditionally used to refer to human beings that 'computed' sometimes with the aid of some calculation device (an abacus for example). That is why computers as we now call them were for years known as mechanical or electronic computers so as to differentiate from human computers. We drop the prefixes electronic or mechanical these days and computer has become synonymous with the electronic computer. Anything can be a computer in theory providing it can perform calculations in one way or another. But it is commonly used as a shorthand for the electronic variety.
