Some women opt for prostitution simply for the significant financial gain. Some women are forced in to it. Some women are sold in to it. Some women might prostitute themselves in order to bring more income to their family if the husband doesn't earn enough. Some women go in to prostitution to support a drug habit. There are a very wide variety of reasons.

Some things that make women turn to prostitution are low self-esteem (often founded on hx of childhood abuse), bad parenting, drug abuse and no skills to earn the $$ needed for self-support.

I think that there are as many reasons as there are for people choosing everything else. There's a little of everything involved and some will have vastly different reasons than others. I don't look down on it and in fact think it should be legalized with some controls to prevent the spread of disease. The classic reason for most prostitutes seems to be desperation. They have nothing else to fall back on. Some will do it because they need to, others will because they want to. I have no issues with a woman who does it out of need. Who are we to tell her that it's better to starve or live in a dumpster.

i disagree Sweet T....i lived in vegas for a while and met some of the most intelligent prostitutes, who came from supportive families, had lots of self-respect, never used drugs and were college educated . . . there actually are women out there who do it because they like sex and the 'stress-free-ness' about the occupation/lifestyle . . .i think the internet gave lots of people lots of options and help in career choices, prostitution just happens to be one of them....peace
