If the shirt is white and the pants are black, you could wear almost any colour or pattern (within reason of course). Black and white are considered foundation colour and could be matched with almost any other colour.
However, you may want to consider a tie that has a main colour similar to the colour used in the pinstripes.
In addition, if your black socks have a pattern (like blue checks for example), you could wear a tie that matches the colour used in the pattern.
I work at S&K Menswear so I deal with stuff like this all the time...If your tie has a little of the suit/pants and shirt in it then it's fine. Red is always good in your situation. Just to let you know and you may already but match your dress socks with your pants not your shoes.
Wear a big fat black tie with big white polka dots and we will all laugh at you and call you Beetlejuice.

That is your choice. It should be whatever you are comfortable with.
