For much of the 20th century, young women wore styles and made themselves to look older than they were. Why then since after the early 90s did the styles and fashions change to where looking young/younger was the thing?

I'll watch movies made prior to the 90s, and unless the girl is pre-pubescent, I can't tell the age. There's something about the hair, the emphasis on make-up, and the clothing styles trying to look like they are for older people.

I was unaware that young women have been attempting to make themselves look younger. I think the thing is they start trying to make themselves look older at an earlier age.
