    With nobody showing up to the games, they had to find a way to save ink for tickets and advertising by taking five letters off the name of the team. Next year, they will simply be called the Bay Rays.

    I believe that they wanted to change the team image (which was one of being a perennial loser), and it coincided with the changing of the uniform and logo.
