  • I'm pretty sure you'll ovulate regardless, but it might be wasted effort if the uterus isn't set up right when the egg gets there.
  • You definitely ovulate with irregular cycles. There was an old wives tale that women who were nursing couldn't get pregnant because they weren't getting a period (nursing affects the cycle and for many, they don't get a period for months after giving birth so they assume they haven't ovulated) The problem is that the period is a sign that occurs AFTER ovulation. That is, an egg was released and not fertilized so the uterine lining was shed. Thinking that they weren't ovulating again because they didn't have a period since giving birth and nursing caused a lot of unexpected second births. My cousin's children are 11 months apart because she mistakenly believed that until she got a period after the first birth, she wasn't yet ovulating. What all this means in a nutshell is an irregular cycle doesn't mean you aren't ovulating, it means that the time span between ovulation is longer than you expected. Get a good fertility book and it will explain it all to you.
