I am thinking of selling my house, buying a motor home, and just travelling for a year or two. With the price of gas, is this a dumb move?

Not particularly if you can afford it, but instead of selling, why not consider renting your house out instead. You will have a monthly income to help defray your travel expenses and won't lose any value or equity. win-win

Yes it is. Your house will appreciate in value each year. That motor home will depreciate each year. In fact, it will loose a huge chunk if it's value as soon as you drive it off the lot. In a few years you'll be lucky to sell it at all.

Given the suboptimal market for selling houses, it doesn't sound like the wisest thing to do right now.

Depends on how high your property taxes are where you live now.

No I don't believe it is dumb, however what I would have to ask is about the life itself so to speak. If you are traveling with a significant other what would you do if something happens to that person? Would you be left out in the cold, broke with no house or spouse?

Good points. Yes..I will be travelling with my husband and we have talked about that possibility as we are both over 60. We would have the principal from our house invested and live on our pensions which, when we crunch the numbers, will cover all expected expenses. We do have family who would rush to 'rescue' a survivor! Neither of us is too concerned about being 'homeless'....
Thanks for your response.
