We stop when we feel like it, for potty breaks, to eat or drink, to walk the dog or our legs, to see the scenery or some great new place. Some roads it's every half hour others it could be every 4 hours.

Depends. If it's just me, I only stop for gas, and take care of personal needs at the gas station, and eat while I drive.
If I'm with my kids, though, I stop much more often to change diapers and let them stretch and walk around, get food, and go to the bathroom.

on a 6 hr drive i usually don't stop more than 2 times. combine a stop at a gas station and bathroom most of the time.
