    I would. If the the french ad put the city 20 to 30 miles north (where the higher ground was) of its present location the English would have setteled where it is now and they would have had control of the Mississippi. Then the English would still have control over the middle of the U.S. and possibly the west coast. But now there is a part of the river 15-20 miles south of the city called "English Turn" were the English turned their ships around and decided that the land south of the city was too unstable to put a settlement to block the french from having control of the mouth of the river. Thats why New Orleans is there today.

    No. I love that city, but I would have learned the first time around. Living under sea level right on the Mississippi River is insanity in this day and age.
