Help answer this question below.
I think that it is due to an Afro-centric view of history and a reaction against past racism.
In the past, it was believed that Black Africans were too stupid to have developed any Civilization without outside help from a paler skinned "superior" race such as the Egyptians, Arabs or even the Ancient Greeks.
For example, Zimbabwe was considered to have been built by King Solomon or the Queen of Sheba.
In reaction to this, some African intellectuals such as Cheik Anta Diop and others went to the other extreme.
Their reasoning is basically:
1)There must have been Black African Civilizations in the past.
2)Egypt is part of Africa.
3)Today,the vast majority of Africans are Black.
4)Therefore, Egypt was a Black African Civilization.
Of coarse, modern Egyptians consider this not only wrong, but racist.
This is a somewhat polluted question. I, as a black person, can say with 100% certainty that the Egyptians were NOT black. In fact, black people did not exist, yet. Black is purely a social construction of plenty of dark skinned Africans have disparate genotypes. E.g., Khoisan, Bantu, Ethiopic, Sudanese, Somali, Chadic, Tutsi, Fulani peoples: might all be lumped into some post-colonial, Eurocentric idea of what is "black". But this is a purely visual distinction and that where it stops. The genomes don't bear out any kind of significant "blackness".
Ancient "Middle-Easterness" is afflicted with the same kind of muddling. We can't know anything about the genetic make up of the Ancient Egyptians in general because they were just to heterogeneous genetically. From whence they arose is somewhat shrouded, then you have to consider intermixing with Libyans, Hittites, Hyksos, Nubians, Sumerians, Akkadians, and every other group in those parts.
That notwithstanding, modern middle-eastern is just as muddled! There's no way to prove or disprove the phenotype of the egyptians through any kind of genetic comparison with anyone.
(wow, I hate that my answer is so long)
Also consider that more than 65% of Jamaican men have Y-chromosome haplotypes that lead back to ENGLAND! Does this mean that their English looking? No! It just means that the Y-chromosome which is passed down from father to son, probably leads back to some Englishman who had his way with one of his Jamaican slaves.
mtDNA has the same problem-it examines only a small sliver of the genome of a particular problem. So while Y-chromosomal DNA and mtDNA can tell you for shore what's in a person, it cannot at all tell you what ISN'T in a person.
Lastly, my socio-linguistic point, is the concept of 'blackness' the way we think of it today, just wasn't around. We can know this because it starts to pop-up around the rise of islam. before islam, no documents (even persian documents, who surely had blacks) ever referred to anyone's blackness as a particular distinction. the Qur'an, in describing Bilal, is the first to do so.
Sorry for the length, there
I would like to add that there were other blacks, ie. The moabites.
Who really gives a hoot WHAT color they were? Black, white, green, purple, I mean, really--who cares?
Would knowing for a fact what color they were--change anything today?
Probably because the Egyptian homelands were in Africa. That's the one reason I can think of as to why someone might claim that the Egyptians, or any civilization in Africa, consists of black people. Of course, it doesn't make any sense, but that's people for you.
yeah, that because all the old egyptian engraves in the
pyramides shown peaople look like africans.
thanks,by the way am nubian
I always liked the blacks in my school proudly proclaiming Cleopatra as a black queen. Disregarding the fact that she was a Ptolemic progeny (Greek).
Egyptions were indeed black, or rather, dark skinned, but race wise they weren't negroid. (please no racist remarks, there's negroid, caucausoid and mongoloid in biology)
Maybe because they were and just happen to live in Africa during a very early time period before any envaders,Greeks,Arab,or Asian maybe thats why ..but to some people Black people just could not have a great civilization without the presents of outsiders help. ask Nepolian why he blew off the broad nose of the Spinx??
A lot of people are black. There are middle easterners as dark as any negro who are called caucasian. Some Ethiopians are caucasion and as dark as anyone. Many scholars charting where the stories of the Bible happened and when say that Jesus was almost certainly either Negro or dark Ethiopian caucassion.
The same goes for Hannibal of Carthage.
And why was the Queen of Sheba portrayed as "white"?
It might be hard for certain people to stomach the idea of Blacks being the first people to walk this earth but how do you think Black people feel when we are told Whites are superior, all knowing, and pure. Even Gerald Massey (white) an Egyptologist admitted that Blacks are superior to any other race on this earth. Archeologist excavated an African female skeleton that they find to be millions of years old named Luci. If you don't know the people mentioned in this article don't bother to respond without studying first. Herr Eugen Georg a German historical scholar (also white) declares: "A splendid era of Black seems to have preceded all the later races! There must once have been a tremendous Negro expansion, since the original masters of all the lands between Iberia and the Cape of Good Hope and East India were primitive and probably dwarfed black men. We have long had proof that a primitive Negroid race of pigmies once lived around the Mediterranean. Blacks were the first to plow the mud of the Nile, they were the dark skinned, curly haired Kushites. Blacks were masters of Sumeria and Babylon before it became the country of the four tongues." Again a German scholar who is white, his words not mine. Look it up.
The Horemaket or (Sphinx) is a predynastic monument African pigmies advanced along with knowledge itself due to uninterruptedness, which in point of fact Napolean destroyed in the 19th century because it had "Negroid" features. Ptah the grand Architect was a twa or pigmie and was the first African deity of the Nile hence (Egyptah). Imhotep was a multi-talented Pharaoh who designed the Step Pyramid of Saqqara, and King Djoser who proceeded him help finish it. King Narmer Menes was an African Pharaoh that fought off invading Hyksos, Nomads or Asians to regain the land, not to mention Queen Tyie and several other women monarchs that were just as if not more superior to men are a few examples of more than one Black African Dynasty ruling. In fact the first invasions came from western Asia in the 25th Dynasty. The first dynasty was around 6000 B.C. Solomon didn't come in the picture until 900-600 B.C. around the time Alexander the Greek invaded. We all have been brainwashed about history with his-story but what's even more frustrating is silly ass questions like these that keep the masses confused and those who choose to debate one another when Black people in America are confused about culture, God, religion and KNOWLEDGE OF SELF but when searching for the truth have to deal with people who don't want to accept their own history and what they've done and still are doing to Blacks. The Europeans took, land, resources, enslaved a nation and gave us his-story, NO ONE can tell me that Egypt, founded on a Black African continent is not Black, there is too much evidence to think otherwise PERIOD
I entice you to get a hold of George G M James book entitled The Stolen Legacy whom they killed for publishing his works, that lets you know how far they will go to suppress history.
P.S. Comment If You Want, just know the light falls upon the darkness but the darkness comprehend it not.

You're reading Why do a lot of black people insist that the Ancient Egyptians were black? There was only one dynasty that was ruled by "blacks", it was the Nubians. And DNA results show that most of the ancients are ancestors to the Middle Eastern people there today.
