The name "Demaree" is of French origin and was originally spelled De Maris.

It is an Anglicised version of the French surnames Desmarais or Desmarris. These surnames were to describe someone living in an area with marshes, such as in Seine-et-Marne or Nord. Lynne - Ah, what a shame! :p Thanks for commenting, I was a bit baffled.

It depends on what part of the family you are from. My line of Demaree's came from Cambri, France. They were Knights and it was originally spelled DesMarets. There are several different Americanized versions of the name now.
