try to escape the stress of our jobs for a short time, enjoy the atmosphere, take photos of Gods beauty, some times it will strike me to write a poem, and as we collect shot glasses we often pick up one or two along the way to remind us of the trip.

Usually pick up a few souvenirs (especially postcards), pick up some brochures, take a few pictures, and try to soak of all of the atmosphere I can while I'm there.

Sounds good! Me too .. plus some other stuff .. and some notes jotted down. Your "soaking up the atmosphere" is probably the best part, yes? If we're going to travel, it's a nice idea to try to be fully present IN that wonderful experience. Thanks! :)

I agree. I try to forget about everything else and just enjoy my time and experience while I'm there.

The most tourist-like thing that I do when I travel is I sometimes carry a camera. As far as souvenirs go, I don't usually buy any souvenirs unless I believe I'll never be able to go back. The memories part, I leave up to my memory. I figure if it isn't memorable enough to remember, without writing it down, then it wasn't one of my better trips.

I've been many places, on two wheels, that I know I would have never been to on four or more.

Doesn't surprise me a bit. And notice you didn't just sit at home. You got ON those two wheels and WENT. The right vehicle for the right sort of person .. and healthy/able-bodied enough to pull it off. A good match.

Looks like you'll be remembering all the places you went in the past as you now move through both hot and cold seasons in your spiffy tourist shirts & sweatshirts! Think someone else here said shot glasses. I collect those too. I don't think I've ever bought even one beach bag, so that's interesting! Fun! And more photos being taken. Thanks for sharing your routine!! :)

We've had some good vacations from picking up brochures found at rest areas and those places. Found a nice little Amish town in Ohio and took a riverboat cruise on the Mississippi from brochures found at rest areas.

I agree. Those rest stops on the highway and tourist shops if they exist ... and very often racks full at motels, etc ... have some nice local places that are great to explore. --- Don't laugh, but I carry a 9x12 Zip Lock bag. Actually, several bags. Then, I toss brochures, receipts, postcards and such into that day's "bag". Next day? Start a new bag. lol
Hmmmmmm .. a riverboat on the Mississippi sound fun!! :)

It's an overnight trip, all inclusive. All meals, a hotel stay overnight. Very good price. They even had a hotel they worked with at port who offers special rates for the ship's passangers.
