  • That's not a question, that's a creative form of propaganda which falls within the field of public relations. Let's look at the assumptions you're making: *Dozens of countries have 'turned towards capitalism' because 'they saw' that it 'made' America 'thrive'. If by turning towards capitalism you mean abandoning social policies, like welfare and public healthcare and public education and the like, then it usually has more to do with coercion than cultural admiration. Take Bolivia, for example, the poorest country in South America. Until 2005, the Bolivian government was steadily discarding any form of social responsibility, it even made to privatise the water supply - which got people pissed off enough to launch a democratic revolution. The government did these things partly because it made the politicians themselves rich, and also because they were pressured into it by the World Bank and the IMF. The totalitarian system in Russia collapsed due to poor political management and general antiquation - to get the country back on its feet, the only way to get plenty of investment was to go on a privatisation spree, which is what happened in the nineties. Now, because of the lack of social policy, life in Russia is almost as bad as it was in the eighties. Eh, I can't be screwed going through the rest of this in the same level of detail, but suffice to say a lot of people will do anything to make money, which is essentially what drives the political abandonment of social policy in developed countries, whereas in developing countries, economic 'liberalisation' is usually the consequence of political corruption and/or trying to accrue foreign investment. People who want to do away with social policy design systems of measuring progress that support their ideology, mainstream economics is a perfect example of this. It's called institutional bias.
  • "Does it seem strange that dozens of countries have turned to some form of capitalism as they saw that is what made America thrive," No it doesn't. Mind you America profitted by +100 million man-years of slave labor and land at a bullet-an-acre. "including China and Russia," Superficial free market reforms. "and that the liberals in America want to go with the Marxism that failed in those countries?" I consider myself a Liberal. I'm an anti-Marxist: as are most.
