I think it is just when the bird has to go!!! My birds where potty trained they would always go back to their cage when it was time to go... they would go and come back to my shoulder!!! I would say about every 30 min or so!!!

It all depends on when they last ate and their activity. It could be 20 minutes, it could be 1-2 hours.
