African American

Since I believe there is only one race, the human race, I would think he/she is of that race. Now, if we're talking about chipmunks, well..we aren't talking about chipmunks are we? We all started off zillions of years ago from the same source..one source..we are one race. I don't care if you're religious and go by the Bible or you're an Atheist. So all this talk about black, white, whatever seems very silly to me. Happy Sunday, baby sis! :) ((hugs))

I hate the term "african american". It takes away from the african cultures that aren't "black". My wife is egyptian for example. She is as white as a lily but her bone structure is middle eastern. She was born in Cairo and likely has more connection to Africa than most "african americans". Lets not forget that Southern Africa was colonized by European settlers and it is predominantly "white". If you get down to it, the north of africa is either unlivable sahara desert or middle eastern while the south of africa is european and white. There is a huge amount of diversity through africa and no one race should be able to take that away from the other races. If my wife were to say "I'm african american" people would assume she is black. If she says "I'm egyptian american" people assume she is middle eastern. She is neither. We need to drop stereotypes and the first step is to drop titles. We are all people.

Um, what country are you in? Because I know Americans get all funny about this but I live in England and quite honestly I don't care WHAT someone's 'ethnicity' is. If they want to say they are black - good for them - big deal - what difference does that make? I've got freckles - maybe that makes me a mongrel. A person is a person is a person.
