I consider .300 a good seasonal average in Major League baseball because the pitching is superior. In AAA, AA and A ball, where pitching is worse, the batting average should be higher. With metal bats in college, I would consider .350 a good average.

It really depends on what kind of competition you are playing against. Little league and certain high schools a .500 batting average is to be expected from a player whereas .350 is more accurate in most college leagues except for some NAIA and NCAA Division III, and DII teams. Then a career .300 average will likely get you into Cooperstown in major league baseball.
