  • I don't think it can be categorized, as what God really is is outside of human experience and understanding. And since there is only one, it wouldn't be a category anyway.
  • I figure a god is defined by their ability to stand up and say "Hey, I'm a god and you're not, so get cracking on those fifty virgins hearts or it's Apocalypse time!" It's a bit like the criteria that made kings and rulers way back when; the guy with the most power gets to be the most powerful. If that makes any sense. If you have god-like powers and can smite unbeleivers with a snap of your omnipotent fingers, then who's going to argue? For all practical purposes you're a god.
  • The difference I see is that a god is a powerful being, OR a judge. YHWH God is just far bigger than most 'gods'.
  • I think for a being to be a "god" it must have access to or exist within a/the reality beyond our own. It must not be constrained by the same corporeality as us.
  • That's like asking, what is the difference between a doll maker and the doll they make? BIG ONES!
  • He gets capitals in His name
  • unfortunately we are made in his same mold but every copy after the original looses a little luster :(
  • I heard a great quote about this, today: “In knowledge there is power. God has more power than all other beings, because He has greater knowledge; and hence He knows how to subject all other beings to Him. He has power over all” (Joseph Smith Jr., 8 April 1843; History of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints 5:340). Makes sense to me! Any other thoughts?
  • God is: • The infinite divine being • One in being yet three Persons: . • Father . • Son . • Holy Spirit God has revealed himself as: • The "One who is" • Truth • Creator of all that is • The author of divine revelation • The source of salvation And, of course, God is love. For more information, see the Catechism of the Catholic Church, section 199 and following: http://www.nccbuscc.org/catechism/text/pt1sect2chpt1.shtml#199 With love in Christ.
  • One of the biggest ones I can think of off the top of my head is one that transcends denomination. People believe that a God has vast and far-reaching power whereas us mere mortals have a far more limited influence on reality. Man can build a skyscraper; a god can make the big ball of rock that it sits on and send it hurtling around a glowing ball of gas that they also made.
