You may be using a mail service that doesn't work properly. Examples of poor mail services include Hotmail and Yahoo, as you will often never see emails destined for you - even if you opt for no spam protection. Google provide "googlemail" - this service does work. You will get 100% of your mail and their spam filter is very accurate.
