I think people should bee able to choose between death or life in prison. I mean, both of those are pretty damn awful.

Some people just don't deserve to keep living after what they have done. They are a threat to those other inmates in prison too.

Banishment to a lawless nation. Instead of incarcerating people for not conforming to the laws of a nation, there should be an international lawless nation setup where criminals can be sent. If a person does not want to conform to the laws of a nation, let them try to survive in a nation where there are no man made laws (although the law of nature--survival of the fittest--would certainly still apply). Those that survive would have a newfound respect for the rule of law, and this would cut down on incarceration costs. Also, it would be a great deterrent for future criminals.

I can't think of any alternative to capital punishment. Perhaps a Penal Colony in a faraway and desolated place, an island, where these people could be send to serve a life sentence without parole. I only hope that capital punishment is applied when the alleged criminals have been correctly prosecuted. There are too many cases of mistaken sentences on innocent people that then had to be released but their lives were already ruined. There recently was a case of a man sentenced to life and after serving almost 30 years the authentic criminal was caught. A few days later another case came to light about another innocent man who served 26 years in prison, this was discovered as the two lawyers of the accuser and witness reveled the corresponding information as their client had been executed for another crime. Their explanation was the secrecy of attorney/client privilege. It is a very difficult subject which requires very much research.
