[shudders to remember] One time I had no choice but to use my hand and reach in.
You have to dip out a lot of the water yourself first. Then squirt in some dishwashing liquid (like Dawn) and pour in a kettle of boiling water. Stir it around with a coat hanger. This works better if you also can plunge once or twice, but I've had it work without a plunger too.
Somewhere I read that Coca-cola can unclog a toilet but I never tried that.
Let me know if this worked out, or if you found something else that did!
Do you not have a plunger? I'd advise taking a wire coat hanger and unraveling it, and just start poking it into the drain to break up whatever's blocking it.
Do NOT use anything like Dran-O or any other kind of organic clog remover. It can damage the seal where your toilet connects to the plumbing and cause serious deterioration and leaks.
right away?
Try removing the water and filling the bowl with chlorine bleach
Once when I didn't have a plunger I was able to use a wire hanger, untwisted, and feed it through the the toilet drain to loosen the clog.
I have seen somebody take a five gallon bucket full of hot water, hold it high above the toilet bowl and pour it in pretty fast. It flushed everything through. But I dont know how bad the clog was, but unlike flushing, you would be able to stop pouring the water before it overflows. I don't know if I would try it.
Mr Muscle Toilet Unblocker stuff or similar, or caustic sode or bleach. The place to go is the cleaning isle of the supermarket and you will find a range of such things (that you stick down the pan and wait for a bit).
if you need it quick, you better take your shirt off and stick your arm in! grab the TP with your hand!
you can get a small snake that will drill through the object blocking the flow of water. it is bendable and will go in and up and down into the blockage. it is a good thing to have if it happens again. so it is an investment for the future.
.
your best bet is a plunger. there are several shapes. good ones and bad ones. plus there is a technique that works better than other techniques. a slow piston like movement that pulls and pushes the water and sucks and pulls the water. plus it is good to work with the bowl full of water because the water pressure helps a lot.
.
another alternative would be to take the toilet apart. empty the water from the bowl with a sponge or towel or news papers. empty the tank. turn off the water below the tank. unscrew the tank from the bowl. be real careful not to bend the water tubes as they tend to get fragie with age. unscrew the bowl from the floor. it might be dirty...but you can clean the toilet that way. then put it back together.
