In the Theravada tradition there is Vesak, on the first full moon day in May, which celebrates the birth, enlightenment and death of the Buddha. Other traditions have different celebrations. Zen for example celebrates an equivalent date at dawn on December 8th, the anniversary of the Buddha's Enlightenment on seeing the morning star.

The main holiday Buddhists celebrate is called "Vesak Day" and is eclebrated on May 25. On this day, Buddhists honor the birth, death and enlightment of Buddha by releasing doves, offering prayers, giving alms to Buddhist monks, and preparing food for the needy.
