  • I think it's great. It's about time that a woman becomes a serious contender for the second highest elective position in the United States. I don't know if it's the first time, but I believe this is the first time in recent history that something like this has happened. I also think that the choice was a good one, politically. That would somehow destroy Obama's "Change" platform. It's like saying, "hey Democrats, our presidential candidate's running mate is a woman. We are for change as well. You don't have the monopoly of pushing for change."
  • a very interesting choice...a younger woman mirrors Obama's choice of an older man, and avoids the problems of picking an insider like Lieberman or Romney... BTW, she's McCAIN's running mate, not McCAINT'S!
  • An excellent choice, though Kay Bailey Hutchinson would have been better known. She has the advantage of youth, being only 44. Ultimately, I agree with Doggie S. It's a way of saying "See? Republicans can be progressive, too!"
  • Sarah who?
  • Wow! You got this question up here fast! I think it is a very interesting strategy. The political race is starting to feel more and more like a reality tv show....pick the right strategy or you get voted off the "island"
  • I think McCain is bombed, unfortunately.
  • It doesn't matter to me. It's not going to change my vote for Obama.
  • G'day Gort, Thank you for your question. I think that it is a good choice adding a young running mate for John McCain. It should also help McCain appeal to female voters. Regards
  • Bad idea.I think it's a move to capitalize on the fact that most of the women that would have voted Clinton are on the fence because she didnt get the nomination.Maybe they'll see thru it maybe not.
  • Bad choice. The majority of Hillary's voters will vote for Obama because when it comes down to the real "nitty gritty" they're going to stay faithful to their party (democrate). That's all talk.
  • Good political move, at first, that is going to back fire
  • I love it. The Republicans have the upper hand now.

  • Hmm...Pro's and con's... Well she might pickup some of the militant lesban supporters that supported Hillary and can't stomic Obama, ( or any man for that mater )...... She certainly improves the looks of the "ticket" although experience wise she's more qualified as a vouge model than a vice president. If I had to choose between her or Biden then she's the one I'd take out on a date. She cranks out nice looking babies by the bunch ( 5 ),- but then Obama has a few of those himself. She allready has her own election year scandal started which is a real timesaver, ( see below ). If ( or should I say when perhaps ), McCain dies or is forced from office due to his many health problems she will no doubt be the sexiest President this country ever had - if not the least qualified for the role. All and all she will apeal to some Lesbans and virtually all adolesent boys - and can't really hurt the Republican's chances this November by much. * * * * * * * * Investigation dogs Alaska governor By STEVE QUINN Associated Press Writer JUNEAU, Alaska (AP) — Gov. Sarah Palin, a rising young GOP star mentioned as a possible running mate for John McCain, could see her clean-hands reputation damaged by a growing furor over whether she tried to get her former brother-in-law fired as a state trooper. A legislative panel has launched a $100,000 investigation to determine if Palin dismissed Alaska's public safety commissioner because he would not fire the trooper, Mike Wooten. Wooten went through a messy divorce from Palin's sister. Palin has denied the commissioner's dismissal had anything to do with her former brother-in-law. And she denied orchestrating the dozens of telephone calls made by her husband and members of her administration to Wooten's bosses. Palin said she welcomes the investigation: "Hold me accountable." Still, the allegations she abused her office could prove embarrassing for Palin, who got elected in 2006 on an ethics reform platform. "It could be a bit of a knock on the clean-government issue in Alaska she backed," said Shaun Bowler, a political scientist at the University of California at Riverside. Referring to Republican Sen. Ted Stevens' recent indictment on corruption charges and the bribery-and-conspiracy scandal that has ensnared five former or current state lawmakers, GOP analyst John Feehery said: "Right now, in Alaska all you have to do is say the word 'investigation' and people are going to be running away."
  • I think in this game of chess we call politics, it was a very strategic move.
  • She thinks abortion is wrong, supports capital punishment (oh dear), supports the teaching of Creationism in schools, and probably has an extremely bloodthirsty foreign policy (although I'd imagine Obama's isn't much better). She'll probably get in, and that depresses me.
  • Yawn! A Vouge model that shoots moose & makes babies for fun - wheeee! Frankly Jonny Boy could have picked me as his Vice Presidential canadate and I'd still vote for Obama.
  • American democrats are going to rip her to shreds. Sorry this was to be a comment.
  • It was an excellent stragegic choice. Best move McCaint (ha, I like that) has made yet. She has attributes that match Obama, "the first", "young" "new", for example. Those attributes, frankly, which were initially criticized in Obama. Furthermore, she's a "working mother", but it's her husband's business, so it isn't like she was hired objectively. So, ojectively, I'd say he chose well. Subjectively, she's still the same old same old in disguise. Besides, Bush(wacker) approves, so what does that tell you?
  • Good selection for McBush. She is a good candidate to take care of him in the nursing home next year. My 2 cents.
  • She thinks abortion is wrong, supports capital punishment, supports the teaching of Creationism in schools, and has a tough foriegn policy according to another post. Sounds good to me! Tips the scales more to McCain's favor.
  • If obama loses it because he didnt choose hillary and mccain made great move to pick up a female either winner will be historic
  • bad choice. i think it makes mccain a hypocrite. he keeps talking about obamas inexperience then picks someone with almost no experience at all. very bad move.
  • Energizing the Republican Party and saving the world from the Obama disaster looks good to me.
  • She seemed okay at first. After doing a little research, I found dirt about her (without even trying to). If it's found out to be true, I guess the Republicans are over this year.
  • That the democrats now have an easier job in taking the general election this time around.
  • My wife's step-mother was in the US Congress for 8 years, and when I asked her what she thought, she gave me a sideways look that I guess was mostly disgusted, mixed with a little exasperation. She asked me what I thought, and basically agreed with my opinion that it seemed a little patronizing to women, and that she didn't think that Palin was qualified to be Pres. She pointed out that Alaska has about 600,000 people - there are probably 20 or 25 cities (not metropolitan areas) in the US with that many people.
  • Good choice for McCain, bad choice for America. Barack Obama speaks intelligently and I assume a lot of America (Faux News viewers) don't fully understand what he means. On the other hand, Sarah Palin is likely to get votes because she jokes and teases (Hockey mom, pit bull, lipstick) and the American people are likely to sympathize with that and say: "Here's a person who's like me. I can understand what she's trying to say." However, if people would listen to Obama's words and read his plans ( www.barackobama.com ) and the implementations for those, I believe more people would view Obama as the better candidate. On a side note, should we really have a Vice President who compares herself with a pit bull wearing lipstick? (She considers that a joke?) Where's America going to?
  • What a thrill to have a normal person running for office instead of someone with a silver spoon in his mouth, an arrogant whiney fool or a wacko. Sarah Palin represents the values of average Americans everywhere and we are thrilled! She can truly understand the needs and aspirations of normal people. http://www.sarah-palin-is-cool.com
