  • Perhaps they are simply holding your side to the same criteria you hold them to about God. Evidence does not qualify as 'proof'. Sound familiar?
  • Possibly for some. However, most religious beliefs are based upon faith (belief in the absence of proof) and always will be, due to the nature of their religion. The Christian God (the God of Abraham...which is more than just Christian) cannot ever be viewed by human flesh because human flesh is corrupt and cannot exist in his presence. Therefore proof cannot be gained by such an experience, and belief must therefore ALWAYS be by faith. So belief may be supported by other circumstantial (if you will) evidence. Things like miricles, burning bushes that talk, prophets, visions, and so forth. Evolution, ironically, is much the same way. We will NEVER have direct proof where it applies to humanity. We only have circumstantial evidence in fossil records, observational evidence in other species like seeing adaptations and mutations in very short lived species like fruit flies, genetic evidence, and so forth. Evidence is not necessarily proof. It merely supports a given hypothesis or not and we shape our own beliefs accordingly.
  • As both a Creationist and an educated man of science, I have a slightly different view than most. There are many people who only want to hear about what they believe, this isn't only about creation/evolution but about anything. Too many people can not tell the difference between fact and opionion and feel if someone has a different opionion then they have the wrong facts. it is difficult for many people to keep and open mind. But that goes both ways. Creationist don't want to face the evidence that contradicts their beliefs, but at the same time Scientist don't want to face the evidence that contradicts their beliefs. and even though their beliefs are founded in science, they are still beliefs. the THEORY of evolution, is still a theory, not a fact. the big bang THERORY is still a theory, not a fact. there are lots of evidence that disproves evolution too. I personally believe that children should be taught both the THEORY of evolution and the THEORY of creation. and let them decide which way to go.
  • IMHO, the proof demanded by Creationists is the same as that demanded by proponents of Evolution to the existence of God... Both use this lack of "proof" to cling to their narrow minded ideas and keep their heads stuck u... er... in the sand. Hope this helps.
  • great story. one of my good friends is a die hard evolutionist. he is just finishing up his PhD and is all science all the time. One day we were out at a park, and this really, really, really hot girl goes by with just an amazing looking ass. get the picture? well I turn to my friend and say "look at that ass and tell me that God didn't have a hand in creating that!" He said he had no argument.

  • I apologize if you felt that I am trying to put religion in a science class....I have no idea where you got that idea, I have gone back and read my comments and there is not a single mention of such action. Also if you feel that I was specifying only a christian/jewish God. Again, I don't see anywhere in my comments where that idea was presented, but I am only talking about Creationism....that is that SOMETHING created the world. I actually tried to avoid talking about my religious beliefs, and again, I don't see anywhere where I said it. as for the DNA evidence that you want me to show you...how do you propose I go about proving a negative? and "willy-nilly" wasn't intended to make is sound like it happened suddenly, but that it happened in some unknown way. if you know exactly how a monkey's DNA became humans, then show me this evidence. if you can show the world this evidence then evolution will no longer be a Theory and will now be a Law. Do you know the difference? it sure doesn't sound like it.
  • Ain't that funny the way it works? They refuse to believe in evolution and nothing that anyone can do or say will make them change their minds. Yet, they have no problem believing that an invisible dude whipped the world out of his top hat with a magic wand in 6 days. Faith is a wonderful thing and so is gullibility!
  • I agree with you 100%. Accepting the Biblical account at face value, devoid of proof, is just as ridiculous as accepting the evolutionary account at face value, devoid of proof. The problem is that what I consider “proof” may not be what you consider “proof,” and vice versa. Thus, we get into a war of words that really doesn’t get us anywhere. I believe that my regular conversations with God and what He’s told me therein constitute proof that the scriptural accounts are correct (when understood correctly, of course). It appears that you believe that man’s understanding of certain scientific discoveries constitutes proof that the scriptural accounts are incorrect. Until we can find a common ground to work from, neither of us is going to convince the other of much of anything.
  • Yes and willful ignorance is my #1 pet peeve. It's like watching a 5 year old stick fingers in their ears and yell "lalalalala" when you tell them their is no tooth fairy, annoying.
  • Sometimes. More often, though, I think they are aware that a strong case exists for evolution but to admit it would require giving up beliefs, traditions, and community that are very important to them. It doesn't cost them anything to disdain evolution - indeed, it may enhance their standing as "people of faith." On the other hand, it may cost them a great deal of social capital to profess belief in evolution among their peers.
