Question

Help answer this question below.

Has your doctor ever told you that you have "Dry Eye Syndrome" (not necessarily Sjongren's --just the symptoms of dry, irritated eyes) and if so, what were you told to do or what do you do to make it feel better and get relief?

    Have you tried the drops for artificial tears? That works great, and can be bought over the counter?

    Misspelled Sjogren's Syndrome and not sure I can edit the question, sorry--

    =========================

    I went to two eye doctors and my GP. ALL of them said computer use daily for hours will at least cause mild irritation to the eyes of most people. Like contact lens wearers who get dust or dirt on their contacts and in their eyes I would suppose.

    The best solutions I have found (and I have it pretty bad--where my eyes will tear, feel scratchy, dry, itch and even in the mornings sometimes be stuck shut almost due to abit of gunk draining from them overnight) that using baby shampoo or "Ocusoft" and washing the lids and lashes well (eyes closed, of course) after soaking the eyes with a very warm washcloth for 2-3 minutes 2-3 x a day (1st in am, mid-day if possible and definitely before bed) then rinsing well, then putting in lubricating drops (like Nature's Tears, Refresh, or other drops for this purpose).

    I have MILD allergies, but only in the summer, so this is definitely an irritation caused by overuse and alot of use of the computer.

    Anyhow, it IS better, but I have to do it daily, and the eye specialist said that with older (over 40) adults, the eyes tend to become more dry anyhow, so it is probably something I'll need to stay on top of the rest of my life unless I cut WAY back on how much I use the computer.

    Anyhow, if anyone has any other things they use or think helps them (and I am SURE with this group on AB, there are many who have some eye strain at least) or that has been suggested to them by their doctor, I'd really be interested in hearing about it.

    Computers are great, but they can cause neck, back, eye and other health issues...some others which I have also experienced as well.

    Thanks for any input!

    Visine, it helps moisturize the eye, removes redness and irritation.
