  • No, that was John Kerry.
  • No. A POW at Hanoi Hilton in North Korea was a terrible ordeal. They didn't follow the Geneva convention at all. And for over 5 years!!!!!!!!! wow. http://www.mishalov.com/Vietnam_hanoi_hilton.html
  • i think so. all his ads are either attacking obama or talking about his service or him being a p.o.w. and very little about his plans. his campaign is very hollow.
  • No. I don't think so. Even though I disagree wars in Vietnam and Iraq, I respect and salute the valiant men who fought for their Country's cause as patriotic duty. I consider John McCain one among them.
  • McCain was probably very valiant in his day when he was engaged in another war that wrong for the United States and wrong for the world, but that does not mean that he is qualified to be president of the United States.
  • I got tired of it the first time I heard him use the word "gooks". From the San Francsico Chronicle, Feb 18, 2000: "Arizona Sen. John McCain refused to apologize yesterday for his use of a racial slur to condemn the North Vietnamese prison guards who tortured and held him captive during the war. "I hate the gooks," McCain said yesterday in response to a question from reporters aboard his campaign bus. "I will hate them as long as I live." McCain, a former Navy pilot who spent five years in a Vietnamese prisoner of war camp, was questioned about the language because of a story last month in the Nation magazine reporting his continued use of the slur. Since then, reports of McCain's language have been circulating on Internet chat sites and e-mails among Asian Americans, many of whom find the the term offensive and inappropriate for an elected official. • Well, since it is the only thing I know about him (for sure), I think it's overplayed. I'm sorry he was shot down and held captive and I'm sure it was terribly traumatic. I just don't think it's enough to qualify for being the president. He can have my respect and gratitude, but it's not enough to get my vote...especially since he's chosen Palin to take his place in the event he becomes incapacitated in some way. She should stay at her home looking at Russia.
  • No one deserves to go through the kind of hell he and so many others went through as POWs. However, the fact that he was a POW has no bearing on if I will vote for him....WHICH I will not do as I don't agree with his politics at all.
  • Yes,he entered the military and happened to get caught by enemy forces. That happened to a lot of military men,and still does. The fact that he was in the military does not qualify him to be a president at all,and it should not be mentioned.Do people really care, and is it not the time for the important issues be discussed, like the economy, socialized medicine for all,and an improved image internationally.
  • He seems to slip it into every speech, even ones about economics, so I would say yes.
  • Yes, yes, a million times yes.
  • It would be more seemly if he left it to others.
  • Is Obama over playing the race card?
  • Oh wow, is McCain a POW? I had *NO* idea. /end sarcasm Of course he's overplaying it, it's practically the only consistent thing that comes out of his mouth.
  • I think the less McCain says about being a POW, the better. -
  • Yes he absolutely is overplaying the issue. His having been a POW has nothing to do with his, if any, qualifications to be president. He should stop it now we all know his military record and he attracts all those other POWS who know him very well, are not pleased to see him around and will haunt him forever.
  • Are the people who hear his POW stories not listening to the point of the stories?
  • I don't think so. It's a differentiator. He can say it all he wants.
