What do you enjoy more: showing or trail riding?

Trail riding because it is purely for the rider's and horse's enjoyment.

I like trail riding, especially horsepacking in the mountains but what I really love to do is work in an arena, especially with a talented young horse or an up and coming one. I love ground work, driving, lunging, I love playing without any tack in a round pen or out in the fields. I like all the prep work for a show, but I don't really enjoy the shows, unless it's a great dressage test that tells me all my 'homework' was worth it or a new cross country course I get to 'play' on :-)

Spoken like a true horsewoman! I totally understand what you find joy in and it's what everyone should focus on if they truely want to be a Horse Person, not just a horse rider: the developement of the horse and all the ways to bring about that development.

Thank you. I enjoyed the question as it had me thinking about what I really loved about it and also how much I miss it. We sold the last of our horses before we moved out here to upstate NY and after 4 years without my own, just playing with neighbors and friends horses, I really miss them so much. All those little things that just go beyond riding a friend's horse or rare occasions. Both my husband and I are seriously thinking about how to get some equine back into our lives. I've had horses since I was about 8 years old and it's hard to go it without:-(

OMG!!! I can't believe you don't have a horse right now! It must be killing you. Buy one! Board it! Ride it everyday!!! Life is too short :)

My SIL and BIL next door have a huge two story barn next door that I have my eye on, or my eye is on one of their stalls but they are full of stuff, building supplies and junk.Our land isn't too open for horses, but I'm trying to see if we couldn't make a small turnout pasture behind the barn. Maybe next year when things are a bit more settled since building our home. Just down the road is a man that drives Belgians and Freisians in carriage events. We may ask him about renting one of his pastures for the summer. It's all so different here in NY compared to CA. LOL!!! I feel like a first time horse owners because it's so different:-)

Trail riding definitly!
I think the horse gets more fun out of it too =]
Couldnt be bothered with showing, too bitchy.
