No, inanimate objects cannot have intent and therefore cannot be killers. They could be weapons or tools of harm. They could even be an accidental cause of death or injury. But it takes an action to be a killer.

I also think they save life and limb at a much higher rate than they create injury or death.

Strongly disagree - and statistics have proved it. Of course you ha find freak accidents in which they have done harm, but the number saved is literally hundreds of times the number of those harmed.

I assume you mean that airbag and seatbelt use may result in the death of the user in accidents.

The answer to this is YES.

However, these safety items are FAR more likely to prevent death or serious injury than be the cause of it. Properly used, they present the user with a TREMENDOUS buffer against injury. The object is to keep the person safely confined within the shell of the vehicle without letting him bounce off hard objects while the metal structure of the surrounding vehicle absorbs as much energy as possible before any gets through to the passengers.

Almost every person who was in an accident and died wearing a seatbelt (with or without airbags) would invariable have died anyway because of the nature of the accident.

For that 'one-in-a-million' whose life would have been saved had he NOT been wearing his seatbelt (with or without airbags)...well, those are p*ss poor odds to justify telling those other 999,999 NOT to use their safety equipment.

There is an old saying: "The race doesn't always go to the swift, nor the fight to the strong. But that's the way to bet." Don't bet against the odds with your life.

  • I agree!

Airbags can blow up in your face, explode and burn. If you get trapped on one, you could suffocate.

Seatbelts can jam, so stop you from escaping from a burning vehicle if needs be. They may stop you flying through the windscreen, but they can also break your ribs - it's happened to me! Could puncture a rib, which could pierce your heart... Goodnight Vienna.

I'd still rather have them though!

Some people have been killed because of their seatbelts or airbags. However the number of people who have been saved is far greater.

Drinking too much water is a potential killer as well.
