The term anabaptist was used to describe and define certain Christians during the Reformation.

These Christians rejected infant baptism, choosing instead believer's baptism.

Since many of them had been baptized in their infancy, they chose to be rebaptized as believing adults.

So their enemies called them anabaptists -- "re-baptizers."

Anabaptist is a term that was coined by Roman Catholics to represent any group of "heretics" who rejected the Roman Catholic practice of infant baptism,and/or any baptism not done by immersion. there were many groups throughout history who believed the Bible rather than catechism and rejected alien baptism, such as the the Donatist, Albigensians.and Waldonsess all of whom were regarded as Anabaptist.
