How did the show make those cool smoke effects?

    Based on of the "extra" tracks from the "Thunderbirds" DVD set, the smoke was some kind of oil that, when heated with an electical heating element, made smoke. This heating element was just a nicrome wire, so you could hide these things in machinery, cook ware, even cigarettes!
