Could be a phobia about eating at other people's home. Could be for religious reasons, something he is allergic to and doesn't want to risk eating. He could be worried about unknown things like sanitation or just plain too uncomfortable to eat in from of others. He might even have been taught that it is the polite thing ot do and doesn't want to bother you.

There could be a lot of reasons. Maybe he was taught that it is impolite to accept food from someone when you visit. Maybe he is vegetarian and you aren't, or vis versa. Maybe he is germ phobic and your kitchen isn't clean enough for him. As someone said, maybe he has serious food allergies (I have reached the point where I really can't eat in restaurants or anything I haven't cooked myself).

I don't accept food from my parents home. They leave things out on the stove and I don't need food poisoning. If they offer me a banana or a piece of fruit, that is safe. I don't want anything they cooked or that needs refrigeration because it would be "Russian Roulette".

Plus with their cat jumping all over and my brother doing the dishes, it's really not safe.

Food allergies, various dietary restrictions, politeness--
I know I pretty much always refuse something the first time. If you ask again if I want something, I'll figure you're *not* saying it as a polite formality, and I'll more likely ask for something if I'm actually hungry.

My ex's house was gross and I wouldn't eat anything there that wasn't hermetically sealed. hopefully that's not your issue.

    I think he's just shy.
    Don't take offence.

He may have food allergies and just wants to be safe.

im the exact same way - your food is your food, and not my food. even if you offer me some, its still yours, so i feel i shouldnt take it. most of the time people read this as me thinking your food is somehow dirty (?) but this isnt the case. assuming your friend is the same as me.
